Aikido is a Japanese martial art whose techniques are aimed at redirecting the energy and strength of an attacker. It is a modern martial art derived from the hand-to-hand combat techniques of the samurai in ancient Japan.
We train aikikai aikido as is is practiced in the hombu dojo Tokyo by, among others, the Ueshiba family, the descendants of the founder of aikido, Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). We are affiliated with the hombu dojo because we are members of the Dutch Judo Association (JBN).
These teachers are our inspiration: Nobuyoshi Tamura sensei, Chris de Jongh sensei (sjok.nl), Seishiro Endo sensei (seishiro.info), Kanshu Sunadomari sensei and many more.
In order to practise aikido properly, we train strength, flexibility, endurance, speed and coordination. It is equally important for us to develop focus, inner strength and stability. The lessons are therefore both physically and mentally challenging.
Our aikido combines soft and hard techniques, which are performed gently and fluidly while striving for maximum effectiveness.
